We're very happy to forward this report about our sister magazine and Murray Hill office neighbor, I.D. magazine. We share a (very small) sink, a color copier, and a love for great design, and now we share Jesse Ashlock as a mutual friend who's a contributor to both magazines. Welcome, Jesse! The official release, slightly truncated for space, follows.

F+W Media Announces Appointment of I.D. Magazine Editor-in-Chief

NEW YORK – May 14, 2009 – Gary Lynch, Publisher and Editorial Director of the Design Group for F+W Media, announced today that Jesse Ashlock has been named Editor-in-Chief of I.D. Magazine and will begin work on May 26, based in the company’s New York office.

Ashlock is a rising media star who has built close relationships within the design community. He has long been a contributing editor to I.D., moderating the interactive category for I.D.’s Annual Design Review the last three years, and is a regular contributor to Print Magazine.

“One of our objectives is to build the I.D. brand into a multi-platform business,” says Lynch. “Jesse’s varied background in print, digital and event planning is ideally suited to the task and will help usher the I.D. brand into the next phase of its long and honored publishing tradition.”

...

“It’s a tremendous privilege to be chosen to guide a brand as storied, influential and respected as I.D.,” says Ashlock. “I hope to be able to honor the tradition of my editorial predecessors while moving the business forward into digital media and events.”

The social-media gurus at Mashable assembled a fantastic list of Twitterers to watch. Of course, we're biased; @printmag is one of them! Here's how Mashable leads up to the list of recommendations, all of which we intend to follow.
There are thousands of designers on Twitter tweeting about everything from ongoing projects to their personal lives. But only a small percentage of those tweet about design topics of interest to other designers and design addicts. These people cover everything from their design process to their own projects, and design resources from all over the web. Below is a list of more than 85 of those Twitterers.

The American Society of Magazine Editors has awarded Print the top prize for General Excellence for the second year in a row. This marks the fifth time the magazine has won--the third in five years--and its 12th nomination overall. Print offers a hearty thank you to all the writers, designers, photographers, illustrators, interns, and staff who continue to make a printed magazine about print culture a possibility even today.

It was hard to see Speak Up go, but it's great fun to browse the archives, which are elegantly planned and designed and a joy to read. Don't miss their smart and lively interviews.

Have you signed up yet for Print's Twitter feed? As we work to completely revamp our website (you'll like the results), we're enjoying posting a bunch of tweets on the world of design—and design in the world—that we think Print readers will dig. We're at www.twitter.com/printmag; come find us, and join in!
